Beveling mirror and glass edges can create an elegant, sophisticated and attractive look that improves the overall appearance of any mirror or glass.
Beveling and edge work are frequently used on vanity mirrors, table tops, and wall mirrors. A Cutting Edge Glass and Mirror, Inc. offers both straight lines and diverse shapes.
What is a beveled mirror?
A “beveled mirror” refers to a mirror that has undergone the process of cutting its edges to a specific angle and size in order to produce a framed look. This process leaves the glass thinner around the edges of the mirror, while the large middle portion remains thicker.
Beveled Edge Mirrors
The bevel around a mirror can range in size from 1/4″ to 1-3/4″ (see illustration at left to view to view the look of a beveled mirror edge in profile). You can also have the edges of the mirror polished to create a sleek, “finished” look.
Mounting your custom beveled mirror:
- Mirror Mastic can be used as an adhesive to glue the mirror to the wall for maximum safety.
- Mirror glass is heavy and fragile, so the supporting wall must be well supported.
- J-bars or L-bars can be used to support the mirror in the bottom and top. Several different finishes and colors available including: Chrome, brushed nickel, and brass.
Where are beveled mirrors typically used?
A beveled mirror works in many rooms. Custom beveled mirrors add a touch of elegance above a sideboard, in a dining room, over a fireplace or in a formal living room or library. With or without frames, they easily blend with the decor of the room in which they’re placed without dominating it. Beveling is normally applied to mirrors that serve as a focal point in the room.
Frameless beveled mirrors are a wonderful choice in an entryway, dining room or bathroom because beveled mirrors don’t need an extra frame…the beveled edges give the mirror a frame-like look without weighing it down with a heavy wood or metal frame. This results in an impressive mirror that blends easily with any decor.
Another popular design option is to apply beveling to bathroom mirrors. Beveling a bathroom mirror turns a normally bland bathroom necessity into a classy design statement. Beveled foyer mirrors and fireplace mirrors are becoming increasingly popular home design options for homeowners interested in updating their home decor, due in part to their superior ability to make a room appear lighter and feel larger.
Add safety backing online
- If breakage occurs, glass fragments are held in place to reduce the risk of injury from scattered glass and make cleanup easier.
- Strengthens the mirror overall, increasing impact strength to help prevent breakage.
- Prevents moisture entrapment to keep mirror from delamination.
Where to buy beveled mirrors?
It’s easy to buy custom cut beveled mirrors at A Cutting Edge Glass & Mirror in our online glass and mirror store – you don’t even have to visit our glass showroom in VA or glass showroom in MD for most purchases. Do custom beveled mirrors cost more?
